Rohypnol is illegal for producing or sold in United States but it arrives in America through smuggling. It is an addictive drug. Rohypnol (brand name of a drug known as Flunitrazepam) is a powerful sedative. It depresses the central nervous system. It has been identified as a ‘date rape’ drug. It is available as a white tablet and it is when dissolved in water has no taste or odor. It is taken by people in the form of pills, dissolved in a drink or snorted. Its effect last for 2 to 8 hours. It creates a sleepy, relaxed and drunk feeling, blackouts, complete memory loss, nausea, dizziness and disorientation, difficulty with motor movements and speaking. It can also lead to physical and psychological dependence. It can be added to drink or food with a low possibility of detection.

Five main effects of this drug are: hypnotic (causing sleepiness), anxiolytic (reducing anxiety), anti-seizure (reducing seizures and convulsions), muscle relaxant, and amnesic (disrupting memory). Those who take this drug regularly may produce withdrawal symptoms like hallucinations, shock, derealization, delirium, convulsions, and cardiovascular distress.

A person suffering from Rohypnol abuse may appear to be intoxicated, experience personality changes, poor decision-making ability, loss of interest in activities and behave differently then normal.
