Narcotics

Narcotics are a general term used to define a broad range of illegal drugs such as heroin. In U.S., narcotics are illegal for use by people. There are many people who are affected by the use of narcotics. Many rehab centers are there which provides treatment for these people.

Narcotics refer to the any illegal or unlawfully possessed drug. They are taken orally, injected, smoked or snorted. The effect of drug depends upon many factors like amount of dose, route of administration, previous exposure to drug, and the expectation of user. Legal, synthetic narcotics such as OxyContin (oxycodone) and Vicodin (hydrocodone) are prescribed as pain-relievers but are often diverted for illegitimate uses.

Heroin is an illegal narcotic, derived from morphine. It is used for medical purposes in treatment of cough, pain and diarrhea. But it also leads to euphoria, anxiety and aggression and reduce tension. Some of the side effects associated with using narcotics are itching, drowsiness, dilation of the subcutaneous blood vessels causing flushing of the face and neck, constipation, nausea, vomiting, respiratory depressionsleeplessness, inability to concentrate, apathy, constriction of pupils, lessened physical activity, etc. Skin, lung and brain abscesses, endocarditis, hepatitis and HIV/AIDS are also found commonly in people who share syringes or inhale the drug.

The repeated use of Narcotics leads to tolerance and dependence. The increased tolerance causes increaed need of drug (dose) and dependence causes addcition to it.

Use of Narcotics is increasing day by day despite having ban on it. It is often imported in unlawful manner. People should understand the harmful effects of drugs.
