Methamphetamine is a white, odorless, bitter-tasting crystalline powder that readily dissolves in water or alcohol. Many people are addicted to this drug. In United States there is large population addicted to this drug and are now seeking drug rehab center for their treatment.
Methamphetamine is very addictive drug, firstly synthesized from ephedrine in Japan in 1893 by chemist Nagayoshi Nagai. It activates certain system in brain. It is chemically similar to amphetamines but its effects are more toxic, longer lasting and badly effects central nervous system. It is taken orallyor by injection or by smoking. Its street names are Meth, Speed, and Chalk. Once a person start taking Methamphetamine he becomes addicted to it quickly and needs more frequent and more heavy doses of it. Its side-effects linked with chronic use are weight loss, drug craving, rapid tooth decay, dopamine receptor downregulation and hypersensitization¸ withdrawal-related depression and anhedonia, etc. Its side-effects arising due to overdose of Methamphetamine are formication, brain damage, delusions, paranoia, hallucinations, and muscle breakdown.
