Methadone
Methadone is a drug and it shouldn’t be used improperly. It can have serious side-effects. It can lead to addiction problem in people. The people are then forced to go for some rehab center to overcome addiction form this drug.
Methadone was firstly developed in Germany in 1937. It is narcotic pain reliever. It is a synthetic opioid, used medically as an antitussive, analgesic, and maintenance anti-addictive for use in patients on opioids. Because of its long duration of action and very low cost it is also used in managing chronic pain.
Methadone can lead to following symptoms or diseases: constipation, nausea, hypoventilation, miotic pupils, hallucination, hypotension, headache, vomiting, anorexia (symptom), cardiac arrhythmia, stomach pain, weight gain, perspiration, xerostomia, flushing, mood changes, difficulty urinating, swelling of hands, arms, feet, and legs, insomnia, blurred vision, skin rash, impotence, seizures. It can cause death if it is combined with other drugs.
The withdrawal symptoms of methadone include:
- Physiological effects: sneezing, nausea, rhinorrhea, increased lacrimation, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, tremor, tachycardia, aches and pains, often in the joints, and elevated pain sensivity.
- Cognitive effects: depression, suicidal ideation, adrenal fatigue, adrenal exhaustion, delusion, panic disorder, agitation, enhance olfactory sense, decreased sexual drive, auditory and visual hallucination, spontaneous orgasm, etc.
Methadone is very harmful drug if not taken properly. The people suffer from many diseases and disorders due to its improper use. Drug rehab centers provide treatment facility to these affected people. There are huge numbers of rehab center in United States. Each of them provides different programs and different treatment facilities.
